Fallen big time for a sports motorcycle? Are you male or female? Do you live in Montreal? Your insurer takes a number of factors into account in calculating your motorcycle insurance premium.

Six factors that affect your premium

  1. What motorcycle you drive (sports or road, engine displacement, value, repair costs, etc.). It generally costs more to insure a sport motorcycle.
  2. Your experience driving a motorcycle. If you’ve driven one for several years, your premium will likely be lower.
  3. Your profile (age, sex, etc.).
  4. Coverage and deductibles chosen.
  5. The number of accidents you’ve had and the number of claims you’ve made, whether or not you were at fault. This information can be found in the claims data base Fichier central des sinistres automobiles.
  6. Your driving record at the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ). It contains information on your driving experience and your demerit points.
